Named prestigiously after one of Bermuda's Governors, Hamilton is the capital town of Bermuda but unusually is not the biggest. This tiny town only has a population of around 900 permanent residents but the inhabitant rise to around one thousand five hundred in the summer months when holidays here are popular. The main thoroughfare known as Front Street stretches along the harbour-front and is home to a ferry terminal, this is a very popular place to begin your holidays as the main street is lined with numerous shops, restaurants, a parade area and many small taverns.

Holidays in Hamilton

The size of the town does no harm to its grandeur and charm, a pretty relaxed island, the atmosphere is created by the lovely cultures and relaxed moods. The British influences received on the island have not challenged the culture, they have simply developed it slightly, with elegant buildings such as the Royal Yacht Club and Historical Museum beckon tourists, as well as the quaint horse-drawn carriages that tour the city. The architecture most prized by the city is the Georgian-style Sessions House which resides on church Street. This building dates back to 1815 and serves as the House of Assembly and the Supreme Court for the whole of Bermuda. A generally very welcoming island, and intruiging for those that require a familiar slant on an exotic location for their holidays. The island is also excellent for diving holidays.

Flying to Hamilton

Hamilton is a very remote location for holidays. This leads to long flight times with multiple connections, though the journey is well worth it for what lies on the island. The Hamilton Island Airport supplies the town with it's visitors who rarely arrive elsewhere from the air.

Fort Hamilton is one way to get an excellent view of the city, as well as the harbour and Gibb's Hill Lighthouse. A common activity for tourists is taking the short fifteen minute walk from the city to the latest attraction. The state-of-the-art Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute is a multi-million pound venue which was build to show the natural wonders of the surrounding oceans. One of the Institutes greatest offers is the simulated dive in a capsule, as well as the interactive exhibits which detail the local reef wrecks, plant and animal life.
