Escape to the Brazilian beaches
If someone hears 'Rio' then images instantly start appearing in their minds. The superb street parades, the Sugarloaf Mountain, the great Corcovado Christ statue and, of course, the 'itsy-bitsy teeny weeny' bikinis on Ipanema's beach. Rio de Janeiro is Brazil's largest city after Sao Paulo, and is capital of the Rio do Janeiro state. The city lies between the great sea and magnificent mountains, it's stunning landscape and scenery make it one of Brazil's most beautiful locations.
Holidays in Rio de Janeiro
The Tijuca Forest is not far from Rio de Janerio, and is the largest urban forest on the planet. Fresh Brazilian music styles including the chro, samba and bossa nova flood the air and atmosphere and help create Rio's cultural charms. The aptly named Carnaval happens every year and draws the city's residents into the world's biggest samba parade, and gives the city it's cosmopolitan feel as old meet young and rich meet poor. The state itself contains most of the country's tourist attractions, so there is always something to do.
Rio de Janeiro - Flights
Airlines, including British Airways, often connect in Paris before going to Rio's international Airport. Originally the Santos Dumont Airport served Rio, now however flights from the UK are much more likely to land at Charles De Gaulle, a more modern airport which has taken over international flights and left Santos Dumont to deal with inter-state travel. The journey is almost 6000 miles (9600 km), making it a long-haul flight which can take up to 14 hours.
