Lanzarote Holidays

Of all of Spain's Canary Islands , Lanzarote is the farthest to the northeast. Not one of the largest islands in the archipelago, Lanzarote measures 38 miles (60km) by 13 miles (20 km) at the longest and widest points. Aside from the major attraction of Playa Blanca, Lanzarote has remained very casual about the huge increase of tourism the Canary Islands are receiving. Few big chain resorts are scattered across Lanzarote, instead small privately owned villas are found, charming and inviting, escellent for family and group holidays. The island certainly has not been sapped of it's culture like perhaps it's sister islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria have been.

Holidays in Lanzarote are vibrant, vivacious and volcanic!

Lanzarote is a volcanic island, offering as much black sand as it does white. Much of the inland appears a scorched desert of ash, with the fantastic heat and camels trotting around carrying goods and, on occasion, tourists. Through areas such as the national park (a drive-through area near the island's heart) tourists discover why the island was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO over 15 years ago.

Getting to a cheap holiday in Lanzarote

Holidays to Lanzarote start with airlines such as Monarch who have regular direct flights to Lanzarote's airport. Flights can be found which take around 4 hours and 15 minutes to fly directly from one of the UK's major airports to the island. Lanzarote is approximately 1700 miles (2720 km) from London; a distance making it a medium-haul flight. Airlines such as easyJet and First Choice (amongst others) have frequent flights to Lanzarote's airport; though not as regularly as Monarch.

Lanzarote Holidays offer a wealth of history

Holidays in Lanzarote are particularly great because the natural beauty of the island has been well preserved which is the main attraction over Tenerife or Gran Canaria. The island's capital city of Arrecife resides on the eastern coast, a simple and small town which is an ideal hub from which to explore the island. The beautiful harbour with it's lovely little fishing boats and splendid promenade more than compensate for the lack of nightlife. Because there are no loud clubs or bars the city is fortunate enough to be calm and can offer relaxing holidays, a quality rarely found where tourists are numerous. This side of Lanzarote does offer more than cultural holidays, near the city is the amazing beach El Reducto and the lagoon of San Gines where golden sand and calm waters can be enjoyed by all.
